We are retired and are looking to exchange in the UK and around the world if conditions allow next year.
Renovated 3 bedroom cottage in a village outside BATH, Great Britain
We went back to home exchanging in 2016 after a number of years absence due to having a rescue dog. The pointer almost lands where we are! We have tried to get the pointer to move but it won't! We are actually along the lane which goes through the village, let us know if you'd like some help locating us. We have a large private garden with a summerhouse for relaxation and extra overnight guests. There is also a garage and place to park. The village is quiet and surrounded by fields, there is a pub which does food within very short walking distance.
Our cottage is 200 years old in parts and "one of a kind". It has been extended and modernised by us over the years. Downstairs are a kitchen/dining room, large family bathroom with shower over the bath, living room and garden room. We installed a pellet boiler recently which will make our heating more sustainable and hopefully more user-friendly. Previously we have relied on coal and wood for our heating and hot water so we have jumped into the 21st century!
Upstairs are the master bedroom with king-sized bed, another double room and 1 single bedroom all accessing a shower room via a shared corridor. We have recently decorated all 3 bedrooms including the master so our visitors will be able to enjoy the improved facilities. We have a round window at the far end of the house with an "iris" blind so you can see the sunrise! My husband is a skilled craftsman so everything has been done to his exacting standards!
We have experienced some wonderful exchanges over the last 15 or so years with couples and families - our children are now grown up but younger children in particular will enjoy our home. The garden is especially good for children and pets as it is completely secure. We had a German Shepherd for a while which needed to be fenced in! She is no longer with us.
We have been to Canada 5 times, Sweden twice, the US 5 times and France, Denmark and Spain once. We have more recently exchanged in the UK which has also been very successful. We have always had positive experiences and enjoy particularly meeting new people and exploring new places and cultures.

Our neighbours and friends in the village will be happy to help you enjoy your stay and point you to the nearest supermarket or petrol station. There is a small supermarket 5 minutes away by car and the pub within staggering distance. Our most recent exchange family enjoyed meals in the pub.
Visitors will need to get used to driving around the narrow lanes locally and learn to reverse in some places!
Within walking distance of an ancient long barrow where neolithic people buried their dead, our village has a wealth of history including stories from the early days of the 2nd world war.
We will leave you good instructions about the house, garden, car and neighbourhood.

Familje presentation, fri text
We are Anne and Chris, both 60ish and Madeline and Ben, both early 30ish. Chris has had his own business CNC routing and I worked for the University in Bath until recently. We will both be retired in the next year or so and hope to increase our Intervac exploring, after a year staying at home with the rest of the world. Madeline and Ben do not join us on exchanges any more but Ben lives near enough to be a useful point of contact. Our daughter is recently married and lives in London. At present we have an automatic Subaru XV for our visitors to use. We have always exchanged our car successfully, taking out insurance for our visitors. We had a few years without exchanging due to looking after a rescue dog who is no longer with us so are keen to carry on exploring. Chris and I both love to travel and find out how other people live and are happy to let other families enjoy our home and village.
We like to take walks around the village, there is always something to see. You can cycle if you like (we have bikes) but in places it's hilly! In any normal year there are numerous pubs offering food all around - you could try a different one every day. If you want any entertainment, Bath is a 20 minute drive away for cinemas and the theatre. There are shops, bars and restaurants as well as the beautiful Georgian city to explore. The City of Bath is home to plenty of museums and galleries plus all the connections to Jane Austen's books. The Thermae Bath Spa with the opportunity to bathe in thermal waters and experience the steam baths and treatments is available to visitors. We have a fairly new shopping centre in Bath which is home to some great shops. We are close to Wells and to Bristol. London is a train trip away and Wales, Devon and Cornwall with their beaches can be reached for a weekend. One of our most recent exchange families went to Stonehenge for an early morning visit and also had a great time on the SS Great Britain http://www.ssgreatbritain.org/ in Bristol docks. One summer our visitors travelled to Wells to visit the cathedral and found a crew filming for a new TV series. Another year our visitors heard the choir rehearsing there - very atmospheric.
We are also close to Bradford-on-Avon which has an amazing 14th century tythe barn to see.
Our area is full of historic sites and quaint villages to discover, including remains of old canals and railways. Of course we have National Trust properties as well which are wonderful to explore, have a look at the National Trust webpages. Let's hope things return to normal soon.
