House in Wooster, USA

Hello!  Thanks for checking us out.  Why exchange with us?  There are TONS of reasons! We have made four exchanges, with families in Ireland, Hawaii, England and Quebec and all have had a great time in our home!
THE HOUSE: We live in a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom home in a small town of about 25,000, small, but with easy access to everything you would want in a home exchange. The bedrooms have one California King, one Queen, and two double beds. We have all modern appliances, including a dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer, working fireplace, microwave and central air conditioning. Our yard is almost an acre, with plenty of room for the kids to play, We have an XBOX One and plenty of games, a tree house and a 100 foot zip line. We also have an elliptical trainer. There are two tvs, a 50" 4G HD with netflix and cable, and one jetted tub together with a regular tub and two showers. We have a vegetable garden and an herb garden, all of which you can help yourself to, plus flower gardens and a native prairie patch. We offer free wireless compuor access, offer a car for your use, a six seat Toyota Camry Hybrid that is also very, very good with gas, about 40 mpg.. Our neighborhood is very friendly and the neighbors will welcome you as friends. We are two miles from the town center, in an area of families
THE TOWN: Wooster has a population of about 25,000, and is a progressive town which is home to the College of Wooster and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. It was named one of the best 100 places to live in the entire US by Money Magazine in 2017 (#37). There are a number of sidewalk cafes, www.muddywaterscafe.com, funky little shops, and great local restaurants. It is a safe, and fun place, with an indoor pool, outdoor pool, indoor year round ice skating rink, and numerous parks and playgrounds. Each year the College hosts the Ohio Light Opera, a professional company that puts on shows all summer. www.wooster.edu/ohiolightopera. It is a taste of America that won't be experienced by just hitting the coasts, and big cities, but is still close enough to big time events and attractions to make it an ideal place to spend your holiday. www.woosteroh.com/index.php
WHAT IS THERE TO DO IN AND AROUND WOOSTER? TONS OF THINGS!!!!
Biking: This area is truly a bikers paradise. You can choose to ride along hundreds of miles through quiet country roads through Amish country, less than 15 minutes from home. Ride past their one room schoolhouses, homes without electricity, farms and stop and visit their craft shops, bakeries and restaurants. Wooster lies just minutes from the world's largest Amish community and a visit to Amish country is something that can be experienced nowhere else and that will leave a lasting impression on young and old alike. www.amishofholmescountyohio.com. Or, you ride on specially designated bike trails that stretch for miles past canal locks from the 1800s, over abandoned railroad trestles and past farms, forests and fields. Our area has dozens of trails within easy driving distance, and with our bike and bike carriers, you can spend a few hours, an entire day or longer enjoying a fun ride. www.dot.state.oh.us/Services/Pages/bike.aspx. Wooster also is home to a great mountain biking spot, Vulture's Knob, just north of town. www.camba.us/pn/index.php?name=Sections&req=viewarticle&artid=119&page=1
Boating: Canoeing, sailing and power boating is available within 30 minutes of wooster. Jet ski rental is an option, or you can choose to fish in a number of small lakes, enjoy big time fishing in Lake Erie, or you can choose to just relax by the water. The number of choices that await you are impressive. www.mohicanstatepark.org/park_activities.htm. There is world class white water rafting within a half days drive, in both Pennsylvania, /www.laurelhighlands.com/, and West Virginia, www.wvriversports.com/. It is easy to combine rafting, cycling, and other outdoor adventure activities in one trip.
Hiking: Wooster offers fine hiking options with a ten minute drive, with Wooster Memorial Park, http://hikingohioparks.com/wooster-memorial-park-hiking-ohio-parks.html. And other outstanding hiking opportunities also exist in the immediate area. http://hikingohioparks.com/
Walking/running: We live within ½ mile of a dedicated walking/running path. This one mile loop also connects with two other paths located at the high school, which, when combined provide nearly four uninterrupted miles of paved walking or jogging paths that traverse flat land, hills, woods and get regular use from many Wooster residents and visitors alike. Also, our neighborhood has sidewalks that allow virtually unlimited walking/jogging opportunities.
Horseback riding: There are several good stables within an hours drive that offer trail rides through beautiful state parkland or privately owned property. www.loudonville-mohican.com/activities-rec-horseback.html.
Historical: If you are into prehistoric sites, you have to check out Ohio's fabulous mounds, built by ancient native peoples thousands of years ago www.touring-ohio.com/southwest/chillicothe/hopewell-indian-mounds.html, and www.sunwatch.org/ or if you like to combine history and theater, you must visit the outdoor dramas held nearby, that portray the early history of Ohio and the interactions of settlers with native peoples. www.tecumsehdrama.com/ . For more interactive history, visit working pioneer settlements within a one hour drive to get a real flavor of how America came to be. www.wrhs.org/index.php/hale, www.zca.org/ .
Restaurants: Wooster is rightfully proud of the many fine local restaurants it has. The Rox Gastropub, http://roxgastropub.com/menu.html and Wooster City Square Steakhouse, www.citysquaresteakhouse.com/ offer outstanding cuisine prepared and served by an internationally trained staff. Coccia House, http://cocciapizza.com/ specializes in delicious Italian food and pizza, while Matsos Family Restaurant offers Greek and American choices. http://dine.com/restaurants/rid/83681/index.html. There are several nearby chinese food, while T.J's offers a vegan menu in addition to a standard menu. www.tjsrestaurants.com/ For something lighter, try our delicious hungarian pastry shop, Tulipan, http://www.tulipanhungarianpastry.com/, or Templeton's Scottish Bakery, http://www.templetonsbakery.com/, or sit on the sidewalk with an espresso or cappuccino and people watch. We have a fine wine bar that also serves tapas, https://www.h2winemerchants.com, and an outstanding local microbrewery, https://www.jafbwooster.com that serves a wide array of craft and imported beer. In short, visitors to Wooster should never go away feeling hungry, nor tired of the choices of terrific food and drink available to them.
The Amish: No trip to this area would be complete without spending time vistiing the Amish and observing their simple lives that recalls generations lost. With the world's largest Amish population at our doorstep, Wooster is the perfect jumping off point for a day trip by car or bike to their specialized shops, restaurants and craftsmen. www.amishofholmescountyohio.com.
Animal Attractions: There are 3 major zoos and two aquariums within an hour's drive in Columbus, Akron and Cleveland, and The Wilds is an extraordinary 10,000 acre wildlife preserve, open to the public that promotes conservation, education and preservation of exotic and native species. Truly worth the two hour drive to have a real life open air safari. www.thewilds.org/
WHAT ELSE IS THERE A LITTLE FARTHER AWAY, BUT STILL CLOSE BY? Cleveland and Columbus are about one hour away by car and offer a host of art and natural history museums, nightlife and professional sports teams. Cleveland is getting especially known for its progressive music scene, and a visit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or the House of Blues is a fun way to spend the day. www.rockhall.com. For even more excitement, try out Cedar Point Amusement Park, also about one hour by car, which is consistently voted the WORLD'S BEST Roller coaster park! www.cedarpoint.com/ Niagara Falls and Canada is about 4 hours away, and the exciting city of Toronto lies just beyond the Canadian border. Chicago is just about 5 hours, Washington D.C. 7 and ½ and the civil war battlefields of Gettysburg, Antietam, and Harpers Ferry are also within a one day drive. http://cwar.nps.gov/civilwar/cwparks.html. For those into history, there are two outdoor dramas within an hour or two, both detailing early Ohio history and interaction with the native people. http://www.trumpetintheland.com/ and http://tecumsehdrama.com/.
A trip to the Lake Erie Islands, is terrific fun, http://www.shoresandislands.com/ especially Put-in-Bay and Kelly's Island, www.putinbay.com/ and www.kelleysisland.com/information/what_to_do_on_the_island.html, and for spelunkers,Mammoth Cave Kentucky an American National Park and a world class cave system is within a one day drive, and closer by, Ohio offers a choice of several smaller, but still very interesting caving options. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Caves_of_Ohio.
ABOUT US: Lon and Melanie are active grandparents in their early 60s with a love of travel and experiencing new things. We have two sons who are grown and out of the house, at age 33 and 31 and one grandson, age 10 whom we frequently invite to travel with us., W just recently returned to Intervac after a nine year hiatus and have completed two exchanges,, a successful trip we took to Ireland and a second exchange to England. Both trips were a smashing success! We are extremely respectful of others and their property, and believe the best thing about travel is getting to know the people you meet along the way. We are non smokers, and do not own pets. We do leave a loose leaf notebook with detailed instructions about how things in our home work, where you can find what you might need and with ideas and suggestions on restaurants and things to do. We are open to any offers and hope we have piqued your interests in exchanging. Please, give us a try. I am certain you will not be disappointed!

Vårt grannskap

A small town neighborhood that is extremely friendly and safe. Neighbors routinely stop and chat with each other as they take an evening stroll on the sidewalks down the tree lined streets. Our previous exchange partners have met and become friends with our neighbors, going to town festivals with them and getting to know them during their stay. We have many different kinds of families on our street, young parents with children, "empty nesters", families with teenagers and single individuals. They make up a terrific blend that makes our neighborhood both interesting and very family friendly.

Familje presentation, fri text

We are an adventurous couple who enjoy huge attractions and hidden gems when we travel. We have been to Machu Picchu in Peru, have sailed on the Nile and seen the pyramids, have sipped wine at a cafe near the Eiffel Tower and have marveled at the mysteries of Stonehenge. At the same time, we enjoyed a week on the beach at Ballycotton, Ireland, and spent enjoyable days on the back roads and small hamlets of rural England. In short we are always looking for adventure and find it through travel of all descriptions. We also want our exchange partners to feel the same way about our home and we work very hard to ensure your exchange with us with be a wonderful experience for both families.

Melanie is semi-retired after successful careers in science research and teaching. She now teaches Biology part-time in the local high school International Baccalaureate program. Lon has been an attorney for 38 years, but now works only 3-4 days per week. When not travelling, which they do as frequently as they can, they enjoy spending time with their adult children and grandson, and especially like meeting people from around the world. Melanie is a voracious reader, while Lon loves the cinema. They try to be environmentally conscious and love experiencing new people and cultures.
