|July 17, 2021 - August 08, 2021||2 weeks|
Summer 2021 - we are exchanging house with a Dutch family. Autumn 2021 (week 42), Easter and summer 2022: We are open for offers for 1-2 weeks. GENERAL REQUIREMENT FOR SUMMER EXCHANGES: The exchange house must have direct access to own garden and have a private pool and/or possibilities for swimming in the sea or a lake at short distance.
Visit trendy and lovely Aarhus! House with great, child friendly garden. Five minutes casual walk to the beach, 15 min. bike ride to Aarhus, Denmark's second city and former European Capital of Culture. And LEGOLAND is just 1,5 hours drive away.
Aarhus is a great place to visit according to both The New York Times, CNN and other media (see http://edition.cnn.com/2017/01/06/travel/best-places-to-visit-in-2017/index.html and http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/ten-things-to-experience-in-europes-capital-of-culture_us_588bc755e4b0cd25e49048a5 :-)
We have a child friendly garden, 5 min casual walk to a great beach, 15 min lovely bicycle ride along the coast to the centre of Aarhus, Denmark's second city which host lots of attractions including the 3star attraction "The Old Town" (open-air museum of urban history in Denmark) http://www.dengamleby.dk/engelsk/den-gamle-by/, the renowned MOMU (Moesgård Museum) http://www.moesgaardmuseum.dk/en/about-moesgaard-museum/culture/ and the AROS art museum http://en.aros.dk. Apart from this, Aarhus is just a cosy and lively city, which we are certain that you will enjoy :-)
We are a Danish-New Zealand couple with three children. Paul (55) works as a clinical psychologist, Eva (54) works as an organizational psychologist and researcher, and our oldest son David (15 years) loves playing handball and gaming, Ruben (9 years) loves playing football, swimming and jumping on the trampoline and Rebecca (9 years) loves singing, dancing and playing football.
Our house lies in a very attractive, quiet residential area with all necessary amenities (supermarkets, park, play grounds, cafes, restaurants and various shops in close proximity). The house is 150m2, modernized and has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large living room. We have free Wifi and Netflix, HBO; DisneyPlus etc. In David's room there is also a large TV and Playstation. From the living room there is direct access to a lovely, sunny garden with lots of beautiful plants, flowers, trees and bushes with various edible berries. We have an automatic irrigation system in the garden to take care of most of the watering if needed.
In summer you can sit in our outdoor couch and enjoy the sun - and a drink - from early afternoon to late evening. For the amusement of both children and adults, we also have a 4,5m x 4,5m trampoline in our garden.
The house is situated in Risskov, which is generally considered the most attractive suburb in Aarhus given its proximity to the sea. The suburb has several restaurants, cafés and large supermarkets/grocery stores (LIDL, ALDI etc) in close proximity. There is also several clothes shops and specialized shops as well as bakeries and a great ice cream shop.
Our local beach, Bellevue (see pictures), with clean water and white sand can be reached by foot in 5 minutes (2-3 minutes on bike). It’s great for swimming and safe for kids. Just next to the beach, you will find our local playground (see picture) and a large picnic area. While you are here you can also use the playground of the local school in the evenings - it's three minutes away.
If you like jogging or just enjoying a nice walk, the lovely Risskov Forest ajacent to the bay is just two kilometers away in the direction of the city centre. If you love biking - Aarhus and surroundings are perfect - see videos at http://www.visitaarhus.com/ln-int/denmark/nature/aarhus-on-bike
We have three adult bikes, 3 children bikes (age 5-12 yrs), a Puky balance bikes (age 2-4 years) and a bicycle trailer (Dolphin) in which two children can sit comfortably (max 40 kgs together). In addition, we have one scooter for a small child.
From our house in Risskov, it’s only a 15 minutes bicycle-ride along the bay (where you pass yet another beach) to the city center of Aarhus. Aarhus is Denmark's second city (population in inner urban area is approx. 260.000). The city centre has excellent opportunities for shopping and affords a number of cultural experiences, such as for example the famous Old Town and the Aros art museum. There are also numerous cafés and restaurants where you can eat or enjoy a nice beer or a latte. If you are fond of gastronomy, Aarhus has 3 restaurants which has been awarded a Michelin Star in the Michelin Nordic Guide 2016 http://www.visitaarhus.com/ln-int/aarhus/world-class-gastronomy-aarhus.
For more information on Aarhus and its surroundings visit the website: http://www.visitaarhus.com/
In case you are a family with teenagers or children in their twenties, Aarhus has lots of interesting cultural/musical events.Just a few kilometers south of Aarhus, the Marselisborg forest situated next to the coast, offers opportunities for walking, jogging, mountain biking or swimming. The forest also hosts the MOMU museum which is highly recommendable.
If you are a family with smaller or a little older children there are many childfriendly activities in Aarhus (see pictures). Moreover, a 30 mins. drive from Aarhus will get you to Djursland with its national park (https://eng.nationalparkmolsbjerge.dk/), beautiful beaches, two safari parks (see pictures), golf courses http://www.visitdjursland.com/ln-int/djursland-wildest-part-denmark as well as the great amusement park Djurs Sommerland http://www.djurssommerland.dk/. (see also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZultgAFrxuc)
You can also visit the Randers rainforest (30 mins drive, see https://www.regnskoven.dk/en/) which has a total of three domes with plants and animals from Africa, Asia and South America. In Aalborg (approx an hour by car) you can visit the zoo on the way to the vild west coast :-).
The internationally renowned amusement park Legoland http://www.legoland.dk/en/ can be reached by car in 75 min. In Billund, you will also find the new LEGO house, which is worth a visit all year round (see https://www.legohouse.com/en-gb/?ignorereferer=false )
There is a high speed car ferry sailing from Aarhus to Sjælland (Sealand) several times a day. As such our beautiful capital Copenhagen can be reached in approx. 2½ hours (See http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/copenhagen-tourist)
We live very close to the sea and during summer holidays, we also generally prefer to exchange our house with a house in relatively close proximity to the sea - alternatively where there is access to a swimming pool (preferably a private pool) or a lake in which one can swim. At other times than summer, we are open for other exciting exchanges :-).
Our previous exchanges have been:
Summer 2010: Spain - Tarragona area
Summer 2011: Germany - Stockach (Bodensee area)
Summer 2014: Spain - Costa Brava
Summer 2015: Germany - Hamburg
Summer 2016: Sweden - Stockholm
Summer 2018: Switzerland - Arbon (Bodensee area)
Exchange 2021: Our preferred countries are listed, but we are certainly open for other possibilities!! Our ideal exchange would be a family with children about the same age as ours. As for toys, we have everything you need for children age 2-8 :-) This also includes huge amounts of LEGO, BRIO (railway), dolls, a large dolls house, clothes for dressing up - you name it :-)
COVID-19: From June 2021 Denmark is opening up more and more - all restaurants and shops as well as leasure activities and museums are open. Discos and nightclubs still closed. Most indoor activities require a "Covid-19 passport".
Quick-tests and PCR tests for children from 2 years and adults are easily available also for turists and free of charge.
We are ONLY interested in houses with direct acces to a private garden (not too small!). Our own house and garden are perfect for children. The garden is entirely surrounded by a fence and has a large sandpit, football goals, an outdoor playhouse/chillout house, a swing for two children, a baby swing and finally our favourite: A Springfree trampoline (probably the safest trampoline one can get).
If we decide to change cars, the exchange car needs to be big enough for five people. Our car is a 2012 Renault Grand Scenic.
Welcome to our house and beautiful Aarhus :-)
