Cosy terraced house in a leafy area near city centre

Our home is a Georgian era listed property that was formerly a worker's house for the large Georgian homes nearby.

We have one en suite bedroom with a king size bed and a second large bedroom with a double sofa bed and space for an a single inflatable mattress if needed. There is also an office with two desks (one adjustable to standing). The house is served by fibre broadband which provides a stable, fast connection.

Downstairs we have a cosy sitting room and a good sized kitchen/dining area that seats 6-8 as well as a small patio garden.

Neighborhood

About the neighborhood

Rathmines was once a small village situated beyond the boundary of the Grand Canal that marked the southern limit of Dublin City. Today, our village is part of city but our road remains very quiet - tucked behind the local post office and with pedestrian access to the Main Street of Rathmines village where there are numerous restaurant and bar options as well as convenient grocery shopping. There is on street parking and visitors passes can be provided. There are two parks with playgrounds nearby as well as excellent running options along the canal or riverside along the nearby Dodder.

Nearby dining options, other than Rathmines village, include Ranelagh which has a wealth of options which can be reached on foot in 10-15 minutes, or Richmond/Portobello which also has a range of dining options.

We are also 25-30 minute walk from Dublin City Centre (as measured to College Green) and within a 3 minute walk to numerous bus routes to town, or a 7 minute walk to the Luas (green line) light rail which also serves the city centre. The AirPort Express bus service has a stop a 2 minute walk from our home.

The area is very safe, and as one of Dublin's more desirable addresses is mostly home to families and young professionals.

Married bookworms who love running and sea-swimming

We are a married couple, both academics and lawyers working in Dublin. Growing up Róisín's parents used Intervac for family holidays and many of her formative memories are from time spent in beautiful homes in Europe and the US.

Before marrying and settling in Dublin we lived in the US, London, Oxford and France but we came back to Dublin several years ago and we enjoy living in an area that allows us to walk and cycle to work, the theatre or to the sea. We love running, yoga, hiking, a cold sea-swim, and a good bookshop browse.

We do also love to travel and take trips when work permits. We spend time each August with family in the Gaeltacht on Ireland's west coast (the Irish speaking area of Ireland) where we enjoy hill-walking and swimming. We also love to visit Paris - where Róisín lived and worked and where got engaged. In years when we have sabbatical research leave we like to spend time living abroad again exploring new cities and countries (even if only for short periods!).
