About the neighborhood
The area surrounding the apartment is quiet, and just a little further away is a lively shopping street with many different shops, such as a budget and a more upscale supermarket, bakery, greengrocer, fishmonger, organic shop, patisserie, and so on. There are also a number of coffee shops (coffee only!) and cafés with terraces nearby. In the park at the end of our street, there is also a pleasant spot where you can get coffee, alcoholic drinks, and sandwiches. When the weather is nice, people picnic and swim there. In another park, the lively Westerpark, a 15-minute walk away, there are more cafés, terraces, and restaurants in and around the beautiful buildings of a former gas factory, now a national monument. Many buildings in the "Amsterdam School" architectural style can also be admired in the vicinity of our home. And, of course, cycling is excellent everywhere! The 17th-century city center with its famous canals and houses is easily and quickly accessible. For example, by bus 21 to the central station. (Stop 100 meters from our home) You can take tram 19 (stop 400 meters away), which runs past many interesting parts of the old city, including the major museums. The nearest district to the old city is the charming “Jordaan,” the Cartier Latin of Amsterdam. Taking this tram in the other direction, you can reach a train station in 10 minutes, from where you can be in Haarlem in 10 minutes—also a beautiful old city, but smaller. In an information folder, we will provide our personal tips regarding the city's possibilities: museums, food and drink, markets, walks, nice neighborhoods, shops, the region, and so on. Paid parking applies everywhere in Amsterdam. We have a resident permit, but for others, it is very expensive unless you park in a suburb or village just outside the city, where it is free. You can then easily travel to and from our home by public transport.

We are a visual artist and a photographer, both of us retired. But we still work regularly.
We love all forms of art. We both still have a small studio in Amsterdam. We cook at home regularly and find that dining out is often too expensive and not always enjoyable. We read a lot and Martin plays classical guitar.
We have two children who have moved out, aged 34 and 26.
